
Media Player Classic development stalled in May 2006. The project itself is something of an umbrella organization for works by Gabest. MPC is hosted under the guliverkli project at. It was developed as a closed-source application, but later relicensed as free software under the terms of the GPL-2.0-or-later license. The original Media Player Classic was created and maintained by a programmer named "Gabest" who also created PCSX2 graphics plugin GSDX. Variations of the original MPC and its forks are standard media players in the K-Lite Codec Pack and the Combined Community Codec Pack. The original MPC, along with the MPC-HC fork, mimic the simplistic look and feel of Windows Media Player 6.4, but provide most options and features available in modern media players.

Opening subtitles are also available, giving you the option to search other subtitles online using website as a default. In order for easier access to some files you can add them to Favorites list. You can browse the various media files in a folder, rendering the favored ones and skip the ones that do not interest you. The program features a series of basic task like: Play, Stop, Pause, Full Screen, Jump To, Show Zoom, Filters, Shaders, increase, decrease or mute volume. Media Player Classic is based on the original Media Player Classic project and Media Player Classic Home Cinema project, containing additional features and some bug fixes.
